Library Project Introduction Print E-mail

The Library Project is an example of how an online iBuild can be setup to be the focus of a fundraising campaign.

Background
Our 100-year-old university (UA) has far outgrown its current library building, and now the university has mandated library modernization and significant capacity upgrades.

The following requirements have been finalized:
  • 5 times the current capacity for immediate relief and future headroom
  • computer research areas (2)
  • multimedia board rooms (2)
  • exterior courtyard with seating
  • additional parking to match the new capacity

Forward-thinking
It has been decided that whereas the original building needs to be kept because of its historical significance, the new addition should be state-of-the-art, reflecting the forward-thinking ideology of the university.

Fundraising Strategy and Requirements
The Dept. of University Advancement has recognized that a multi-targeted campaign needs to be instituted, with focus on donors coming from the following areas:

  • National / international alumni
Fundraising has always leveraged the university’s strong national alumni support, however geographical distance, with its associated time-zone differentials, has made reaching international graduates difficult.

Because most of the international alumni have significant roles in the international community, the university estimates that it could increase overall donations by 25% if an internationally-targeted campaign is successful.

  • Local corporations
Local corporations have a vested interest in the success and growth of the university. Although there have been good corporate partners, UA knows that if the tens of thousands of employees within these corporations could be rallied, then the awareness of the university and subsequent donations would increase.
